The BUPMSA was founded
in 1992. It is the first national organisation representing used printing
machinery dealers. In fact, as far as is known, there is no other comparable
organisation anywhere else in the world.
The organisation was first
set up through the initiative of some far-sighted dealers in the UK who understood
the need to have a credible organisation which could raise business standards
in an industry which had low standing in the eyes of many of its customers.
Although still small,
BUPMSA has stringent entry criteria and a rigorous approach to maintaining
high standards within its membership.
The membership now comprises around a dozen companies, many of whom have been
in the organisation since its foundation. BUPMSA is independently chaired
by Mike Steele, who has no direct connections with any used printing machinery
dealership.
Code of Ethics for BUPMSA members:
Members agree to operate
with honesty and integrity at all times.
Members will produce, if required, a description of any machine offered and
warrant that this is an honest report produced to the best of the members
ability and members will detail any defects of which they have knowledge.
Where a guarantee is given members agree to honour the guarantee at all times
and to put right any defects covered by the guarantee as quickly as possible.
Members agree to provide adequate Public Liability Insurance.
Members agree to provide an accurate description of each machine sold and
its serial number if possible, and to ensure that the machine described is
the machine supplied.
Members agree to provide
their Companies standard Terms of Trading, a copy of which will be lodged
with the Association for reference purposes.
Members agree to describe
the basis under which any machine will be supplied as detailed in the acknowledgement
of order.
